First visit

You need to be at the clinic by 5:30am as there is sometimes a long queue. At admissions we will open a file and you will pay your fee. You will get HIV counselling, if indicated, and have your vital signs checked (e.g. temperature and blood pressure). You will have any other tests you need and see a clinician. Then, if you have been prescribed medicines, you will wait in the queue at the pharmacy. You are advised to bring some refreshments as the queues are quite long as there are many patients that need to be seen.

Witkoppen is not a government clinic, so you need to pay a fee between R 10 and R 55, depending on the service. The fee includes all services and medicines. If you cannot pay, you will not be turned away. For a list of all the fees, please click here.

Follow up visits

You need to be at the clinic by 11am - the earlier you come, the faster you will be seen. You may be given a follow up appointment on a specific date.

Who can be seen?

If you do not have a medical aid or the money to access private medical care, you are welcome at Witkoppen clinic for a first visit, no matter where you live. We may have to refer you to a government clinic for follow up, but this will be discussed with you.

HIV Testing

You can get HIV counselling and testing free of charge. If the result is positive, you will need to see a clinician, for which there will be a charge of R 55. If you cannot pay, you will not be turned away. If you would like to come for an HIV test, you need to be at the clinic by 2pm to provide enough time for the counselling session and further assistance if you are positive. Please bring refreshments as you may need to wait in the queue.
